Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds lost the series opener to the Asheville Tourists on Friday night. With the 3-0 win, Asheville clinched the second half title in the Southern Division in shutout fashion.

Asheville got off to a good start and never looked back, needing just a win to earn a playoff berth. Shorebirds' starter Bennett Parry loaded the bases on a flare single, hit by pitch and walk. After a big strikeout, Parry then surrendered a two-out single to Jose Briceno, giving the Tourists a 2-0 lead.

The Tourists added another in the fifth inning with the help of an error. Raimel Tapia reached on a fielding mistake by Jeff Kemp at second base. Tapia later scored on an RBI single by Correlle Prime, though a rundown stoppped any further scoring.

The trio of Kyle Freeland, Troy Neiman and Trent Daniel were phenomenal for Asheville. Freeland, the Rockies' 1st round pick this year, allowed just three hits in five scoreless innings, lowering his ERA to 0.48 as a Tourist. Troy Neiman tossed three perfect innings, and Trent Daniel locked up his 14th save with a perfect ninth.

The Shorebirds will try to even the series on Saturday evening. Right-hander David Hess (0-0, 0.00) is set to make his Shorebirds' debut against Asheville righty Zach Jemiola (9-8, 4.90). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
