Asheville Tourists News Release
Kannapolis, NC--The Kannapolis Intimidators are going to be happy they do not have to face the Asheville Tourists again this season. Asheville finished off Kannapolis with a 7-1 victory and won for the tenth time in 11 meetings against the Intimidators this season. With the win, Asheville shrunk their magic number down to one after a league by-law made it two prior to the start of the ballgame.
For the third game in a row, the Tourists jumped out to a first inning lead. With Raimel Tapia at third base and two outs, Correlle Prime recorded his 98th RBI of the season with a single to right. Leading off the second, Jose Briceno made it 2-0 with a Home Run over the bullpen behind the right field wall.
Johendi Jiminian worked his record on the season to 13-5 with 5.1 scoreless innings pitched.
Jiminian worked out of a couple of early jams before settling in to retire seven in a row. In the bottom of the sixth, Jefri Hernandez entered with runners at first and second and one out.
Hernandez induced a groundout followed by a strikeout to end the threat. Asheville then plated four runs, all with two outs, in the top of the eighth. Cesar Galvez singled home Jordan Patterson from second and Tapia followed with a two-run single to right. Zach Osborne made it a 6-0 game with an RBI double to left.
The Intimidators managed their only run of the game in the bottom of the eighth; an unearned run on a two-out single by Toby Thomas. In the top of the ninth, Asheville loaded the bases and added an insurance run via three walks and a hit-by-pitch.
Offensively, Tapia finished 3-for-5. Osborne, Briceno, and Max White each recorded two hits.
Seven of Asheville's 13 hits went for extra-bases.
The Tourists never trailed in any of the three games of this series and now head to Delmarva for the first time this season. Friday night's game will begin at 7:05pm.
