Seven Run Third Inning Sends Rome to Win Column

Rome, GA - The Rome Braves defeated the Charleston Riverdogs Friday evening at State Mutual Stadium 9-2 before a crowd of 2,370.

Rome notched a run in the first inning when Connor Oliver reached on a single and later scored on a wild pitch. The Riverdogs took a 2-0 lead in the second on a two run double by

Claudio Custodio but Rome tied the game in the bottom of the inning when Carlos Sanchez hit into a fielder's choice to score Sal Giardina.

A seven run third gave the Braves a cushion. Joey Meneses scored on an error, Sanchez added a two run single, Cody Livesay singled to score a run, Connor Lien tripled home two runs, and Carlos Franco added another RBI single to make it a 9-2 game. Sean Bierman came into the game with two outs in the fourth, in relief of Daniel Cordero, to pitch the remainder of the game allowing no runs and just four hits.

Bierman (1-2) earns the win in his first Rome appearance after joining the team today. Gabe Encinas (0-3) gets the loss for Charleston.
