
GreenJackets Lose Lead in Ninth Inning

Augusta, GA--The Augusta GreenJackets (59-70) lost to the Lexington Legends (53-78) on Friday night. The GreenJackets relief pitching gave up the lead in the top of the ninth inning. The final score was 6-4.
Despite the team losing, GreenJackets starting pitcher, Christian Jones (5-8) had a strong outing. In six innings pitched he allowed three hits, one earned run and struck out eight batters.
It took until the fifth inning for both teams to score. Lexington right fielder, Elier Hernandez, began the inning with a single to center field. Dex Kjersted then reached on a fielding error. An RBI triple by Carlos Garcia drove in both runs for Lexington. The GreenJackets were quick to answer in the bottom of the inning. A sacrifice fly by Eric Sim drove in the first run and a throwing error by Lexington resulted in the GreenJackets second run.
The GreenJackets took the lead in the bottom of the eighth inning. Rafael Rodriguez singled up the middle to drive in the go-ahead run. However, the Legends were quick to respond. They scored four runs in the top of the ninth off, GreenJackets relief pitcher, Ray Montero. Back to back singles and an RBI double drove in the first run. An RBI single by Alfredo Escalera-Maldonado drove in the second run. The final two runs were plated by a walk with the bases loaded and a wild pitch. The GreenJackets scored their final run on a ground out.
Lexington's relief pitcher, Kevin Perez (2-3), earned the win Friday night. In five innings pitched, Perez gave up four hits and one earned run. Augusta's relief pitcher, Ray Montero (1-6) took the loss. In two-thirds innings pitched, Montero gave up four hits and four earned runs.
The GreenJackets continue their series against the Lexington Legends on August 23 at Lake Olmstead Stadium. It's a fireworks night! Come out and see the best fireworks show in the CSRA.
