Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

PREVIEW: The Shorebirds bounced back with a 6-2 win over West Virginia thanks to another solid pitching performance. Steven Brault allowed two runs in the first inning, but it was all zeros after that. It was the sixth quality start for Brault in his last seven outings, and Dennis Torres locked up his second nine-out save. Delmarva will go for their 4th straight series win on Tuesday.

TODAY'S OPPONENT: Buddy Borden will start the finale for West Virginia on Tuesday morn- ing. Borden is 0-2 this season despite a stellar 2.23 ERA in eight starts. The right-hander took a no-decision despite tossing six no-hit innings against Augusta on May 15th. The Las Vegas native pitched just 16 2/3 innings in his first professional season with the Jamestown Jammers. The Pittsburgh Pirates drafted Borden in the 7th round in 2013 out of UNLV.

19TH SEASON: The 2014 season marks the 19th season of Shorebirds baseball on the Eastern Shore and 18th straight year as a Baltimore Orioles affiliate. The Shorebirds' first season was 1996 as a Montreal Expos farm team.

ORIOLES WATCH: The Baltimore Orioles had an off day on Monday after a series split in Kansas City. The O's travel to Pittsburgh for an interleague series with the Pirates. Baltimore is 22-20 on the season, in second place in the American League East. The O's trail the New York Yankees by a 1/2 game.

THE IRON IS HOT: 19 out of the 25 players on the Shorebirds active roster appeared for the Ab- erdeen IronBirds in 2013. The IronBirds put together an impressive season, making the playoffs for the first time in their 12-year franchise history. Aberdeen won the McNamara Division in the New York-Penn League with a 40-32 record. The IronBirds lost in the first round of the NYPL play- offs, losing 2 games to 0 against the Tri-City Valley Cats.
