Charleston Dirty Birds News Release

(Charleston, WV- May 20, 2014) - The West Virginia Power topped the Delmarva Shorebirds on Tuesday afternoon at Appalachian Power Park to split a four game series, 4-1. After Delmarva took an early lead in the first, West Virginia fought back with two in the fourth and two more in the seventh to claim the victory behind strong pitching from Buddy Borden.

Delmarva jumped out to an early lead in the first on an RBI infield single from Austin Wynns that scored Josh Hart. That would be all for the 'Birds as Borden worked out of a bases loaded jam.

The Power, however, answered in the fourth inning with a pair of runs on an RBI ground-rule double off the bat of Wyatt Mathisen followed by a sacrifice fly from Francisco Diaz. West Virginia would tack on a couple more in the seventh. JaCoby Jones brought home Elvis Escobar on an RBI double and Harold Ramirez plated Justin Maffei on a sacrifice fly.

Power starter Buddy Borden (1-2) earned his first professional win, pitching five innings, allowing one run while scattering five hits with five strikeouts. Shorebirds pitcher Mitch Horacek (1-5) was charged with the loss and Power reliever Isaac Sanchez (2) tallied the save.

West Virginia hosts the Lakewood Blueclaws on Thursday, May 22, at Appalachian Power Park. Cody Dickson will take the hill for the Power against the Blueclaws Marl Leiter. For tickets or more information, call 304-344-2287 or visit www.wvpower.com.
