Charleston, WV - The Delmarva Shorebirds stalled offensively on Tuesday in a 4-1 loss to the West Virginia Power. With the series finale loss, Delmarva (23-21) settled for a series split with the last-place Power, ending a run of three consecutive series wins.

The Shorebirds took an early lead and looked well on their way to another win. Delmarva loaded the bases with one out in the first inning with an infield single and two walks. The Shorebirds scored on an infield single by Austin Wynns, but Power starter Buddy Borden avoided any further damage.

Mitch Horacek pitched another solid outing, but he surrendered the advantage in the fourth inning. After a walk and single, Wyatt Mathisen curled a groundball down the left field line. The ball became lodged in the Shorebirds bullpen for a ground-rule double. The next batter, Francisco Diaz, gave West Virginia the 2-1 lead on a sacrifice fly.

After the first inning, the Delmarva offense could not find its rhythm. Conor Bierfeldt roped a leadoff double to start the fourth inning. The Shorebirds did not get another baserunner until the ninth inning. Delmarva ended the day with one run on six hits.

West Virginia tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning off David Richardson. The Power knocked four straight base hits off the Shorebirds reliever. Delmarva limited the damage by throwing out Adam Landecker at the plate.

Horacek pitched 5 2/3 innings in the start, allowing five hits and two runs in the loss. Borden settled down after the first inning, getting the win with five innings of work. Isaac Sanchez locked up his second save for the Power with two scoreless innings.

The Shorebirds have a day off before returning home for eight games in seven days. Right-hander Sebastian Vader (5-1, 3.45) will start the opener against the Kannapolis Intimidators. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm on Thursday evening at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
