Delmarva Shorebirds News Release
LYNCHBURG, VA: The Delmarva Shorebirds (3-2) rebounded from Wednesday's shutout loss with one of their own as they blanked the Lynchburg Hillcats (3-2) 8-0.
Trendon Craig put the Shorebirds ahead in the first with an RBI double to score Carter Young, making it 1-0 Delmarva after an inning.
The lead quickly ballooned to four in the second as Elio Prado drilled a three-run homer off the batter's eye in the center field. His sixth home run put the Shorebirds ahead 4-0.
In the fourth, Delmarva cashed in three more runs on an RBI triple by Collin Burns, followed by a two-run bomb off the bat of Samuel Basallo to blow the game open at 7-0.
The offense produced one more run in the sixth as Angel Tejada scored from third on a wild pitch to make it an 8-0 game.
The pitching was just as impressive as the offense on Thursday night, led by Deivy Cruz who dealt five shutout innings. Juan De Los Santos entered for him in the sixth inning and carried the torch to the finish line by pitching four scoreless to complete Delmarva's second shutout victory of the season as they evened the series with an 8-0 win.
Deivy Cruz (5-1) picked up his team-high fifth win with Juan De Los Santos (1) earning his first career save by retiring the final 12 batters of the game. Lynchburg starter Alonzo Richardson (3-6) was saddled with the loss.
7 of the 12 hits from Delmarva on Thursday were extra base knocks led by Samuel Basallo who cranked his team-best 9th home run of the season while also doubling in the game. Trendon Craig provided two more hits, his 9th multi-hit game in 20 starts with the Shorebirds. Elio Prado provided three hits including his three-run homer in the second to highlight Thursday's top offensive performances.
The Shorebirds will look to grab the series edge on Friday as Bradley Brehmer gets the ball against Austin Peterson of Lynchburg with first pitch coming at 7:05 p.m.
