Lakewood, NJ - With the tying run at second, Josh Dowdy induced a roller to the mound off the bat of Alan Schoenberger to lock away a 3-2 Shorebirds win at FirstEnergy Park on Monday afternoon. The Shorebirds become the first South Atlantic League team to win a series from the Lakewood BlueClaws this season. Ty Kelly and Kieron Pope paced the offense with two hits each.
Brent Allar earned his second win of the season in a spot starting role. He allowed only two hits in a career high five innings. Allar also fanned a career high eight batters.
The Shorebirds plated two runs in the fifth inning. Garabez Rosa connected on a double to deep left-center field to score T.J. Baxter and Brian Conley hit a sacrifice fly to right field to score Rosa.
Justin Dalles recorded an RBI sacrifice fly to deep right field in the eighth inning to give the Shorebirds a 3-0 edge.
Lakewood battled back in the ninth before Dowdy came on to secure the win. Leandro Castro and Jonathan Singleton each notched run scoring hits.
The Shorebirds open a five-game series against West Virginia on Wednesday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.
