Salisbury, Md. - Trailing 7-4 into the bottom of the eighth inning, the Delmarva Shorebirds scored four runs to defeat the Hagerstown Suns 8-7 on Friday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. The Shorebirds and Suns both committed three errors apiece and there were ten total walks handed out.

The Suns grabbed an early lead in the top of the first inning. Blake Kelso and David Freitas both reached on walks by Tim Berry. Then, Kevin Keyes hit a three-run homer to give the Suns a 3-0 lead.

The Shorebirds responded in the bottom of the third. Riley Hornback opened the inning with a single. Then, Joe Oliveira blasted his second professional homer over the left-center field wall to trim the deficit to 3-2.

Tim Berry did not allow another base runner to reach after the Keyes long ball. He retired the final 14 batters of his outing and allowed just one hit over five innings. Berry fanned six batters and walked just two.

The Shorebirds tied the game at 3-3 in the fifth. With Ty Kelly at second, Michael Ohlman hit a pop up to right field that was bobbled and dropped by Keyes and ruled a fair ball, allowing Kelly to score.

With the score tied at 4-4 in the eighth inning, the Suns regained the lead. Cameron Roth walked the leadoff batter. Then, Adrian Sanchez dropped a sacrifice bunt that Roth misplayed to put runners at first and second. Randy Henry entered in favor of Roth and the first batter, Freitas, hit a three-run homer to give the Suns a 7-4 lead.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Shorebirds plated four runs on two hits. Michael Rooney drew a leadoff walk. Then, Mikey Planeta singled into center field. Hornback was hit by a Wilson Eusebio pitch to load the bases. Then, Oliveira lifted a liner towards the line in right field and Michael Taylor lost his footing and the ball went to the wall allowing two runs to score, which cut the deficit to 7-6. Then, Ty Kelly hit a one-hopper to short that tipped off the glove of Jason Martinson and deflected into center field, bringing home two more runs to give the ‘Birds an 8-7 lead.

David Walters retired the Suns in order to pick up his 25th save of the season, tied for fourth most all-time in single-season franchise history.

Randy Henry (4-0) earned the win while Wilson Eusebio was tagged with the loss.

The Shorebirds and Suns play game three of the series on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. RHP Scott Copeland is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
