AUGUSTA, GA - The Augusta GreenJackets topped the 1st-Half Northern Division Champion Hickory Crawdads, 5-0, before 2,759 fans at Lake Olmstead Stadium on Friday night.

The GreenJackets (49-54, 18-15) took the early lead with a two-run homer by C Jeff Arnold in the bottom of the second inning. RHP Joe Van Meter (L, 5-3) kept the GreenJackets from adding to the lead throughout the remainder of his six-inning start, but RHP Shawn Sanford (W, 8-6) proved to be even stingier on the mound for Augusta. Sanford limited the Crawdads (61-41, 21-13) to just three hits and no runs through his eight scoreless frames.

Augusta added to its lead with three unearned runs against RHP Colby Killian in the bottom of the eighth inning. With runners at the corners and two outs, LF Rafael Rodriguez pulled an RBI double inside the left-field line, scoring 3B Josh Mazzola from third. Arnold then struck again, driving in both runners with a two-run base hit up the middle, putting the GreenJackets in the 5-0 lead.

The Crawdads got their first two batters on to start the top of the ninth, but RHP Drew Bowlin retired the next three in order to close the 5-0 win for Augusta.
