Rome scores four in 10th to beat Legends 6-2

The Rome Braves scored four runs with two outs in the 10th inning to defeat the Lexington Legends 6-2 Friday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Braves scored two runs in the first inning. Leadoff hitter Tony Mueller reached on a throwing error by pitcher Carlos Quevedo. Matt Lipka lined out to right field, and Edward Salcedo grounded out to second, advancing Mueller to second base. After Chris Garcia walked, Evan Gattis doubled to left, scoring Mueller and Garcia. The Legends got one run back in the bottom of the first. Delino DeShields Jr. led off with a walk, stole second, moved to third after Jay Austin flied out to center, and scored on a passed ball. Lexington tied the game in the second. With one out, Ben Orloff singled and Emilio King walked. After the two executed a double steal, Orloff scored on Delino DeShields' infield single. The game remained tied 2-2 until the 10th. With two outs, consecutive walks to Garcia, Gattis, and Robby Hefflinger loaded the bases. David Rohm then singled to center, scoring Garcia and Gattis. Matt Weaver followed with a double, scoring Hefflinger and Rohm and giving the Braves their final margin. Gus Schlosser (1-0) picked up the win in relief, and Juan Minaya (1-5) was handed the loss. Quevedo went six and one-third innings for Lexington, allowing just two unearned runs. Rome starter Caleb Brewer went six innings. He allowed two runs and struck out nine batters. Game three of the four-game series is Saturday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
