Delmarva Shorebirds News Release

Lakewood, NJ - The Delmarva Shorebirds (20-23) were held scoreless over the final eight innings as the Lakewood BlueClaws (17-25) took game one of the series, 3-1, on Tuesday night at FirstEnergy Park. Despite the loss, Tim Berry became the first Shorebirds pitcher to work seven full innings this season.

The Shorebirds took an early lead in the first. Nicky Delmonico blasted a solo home run to right field, his team-best fifth of the season.

In the bottom of the first, Lakewood leveled the score on a two-out single up the middle by Maikel Franco.

Lakewood took their first lead on an RBI groundout to third by Logan Moore in the second inning. Lakewood increased the lead to 3-1 in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to center field by Kyrell Hudson.

Neither team scored the rest of the night.

Berry surrendered just four hits over seven full innings, a career long. He retired the final ten batters of his outing and never faced more than five batters in any half inning.

Devin Jones worked a scoreless eighth inning with one strikeout.

Ramon Oviedo earned the win in his South Atlantic League debut in six strong innings. He allowed five hits and one run.

The Shorebirds and BlueClaws will play the series finale on Wednesday morning at 11:05am. RHP Parker Bridwell is the scheduled starter.
