HICKORY, NC - For the second straight day, the Hickory Crawdads and Kannapolis Intimidators split a doubleheader with consecutive seven-inning games . The Intimidators took game one, 7-6, which featured two rain delays, before the 'Dads cruised to the 4-2 win in game two, before 851 fans at L.P. Frans Stadium.

Game One:

Kannapolis (18-26) got out to an early lead in the top of the first inning against LHP Andrew Faulkner (L, 0-3). LF Ross Wilson doubled to start the frame and then moved to third on a 1B Grant Buckner ground out, before an RBI ground out by C Kevan Smith scored Wilson for the 1-0 lead.

The 'Dads (20-23) got two men on with only one away in the bottom of the first against LHP Blair Walters, but then the rain started and the game went into the first delay. After a 26-minute delay, Walters navigated through the remainder of the inning unscathed.

The Intimidators then stretched the lead with three runs in the second and one in the third, before the rain started pouring down again at the start of the fourth inning and the umpires called for the second rain delay, which lasted one hour and forty-five minutes.

Once the top of the fourth continued, the Intimidators struck for a pair of runs (only one earned) against LHP Chris Hanna, stretching the lead to 7-0. The Crawdads, though, starting chipping away right away.

Hickory got on the board in the bottom of the fourth against RHP Chris Devenski (W, 1-1). 2B Rougned Odor led off with a double and was followed by a 3B Hanser Alberto single, putting runners at the corners. After C Kellin Deglan drove in Odor with an RBI sacrifice fly, CF Jordan Akins connected with a two-run homer to make it 7-3.

The 'Dads continued to race back into the game with a two-run bomb by Odor in the fifth and an RBI grounder by 1B Jhonny Gomez that scored Akins in the sixth, bringing Hickory within one run of tying it, 7-6. The Crawdads continued the comeback bid with a leadoff single by DH Drew Robinson in the bottom of the seventh. One out later, Robinson moved to second on a ground out to first base, before advancing to third on a two-out infield single by Alberto. With the game-tying run at third base, Deglan ripped a line drive back towards the middle of the infield, but RHP Steven Upchurch (S, 3), while ducking out of the way of the comebacker on the mound, was able to snag it on the fly for the game's final out, closing the 7-6 win for Kannapolis.

Game Two:

The Crawdads (21-23) kept the momentum from the near comeback going in the second game, striking for a run in each of the first four innings. 2B Rougned Odor led off the bottom of the first with a double and quickly stole third base. One out later, 3B Drew Robinson worked a walk, before RF Zach Cone knocked an RBI double to plate Odor for the 1-0 lead against LHP Jefferson Olacio (L, 1-2).

DH Kellin Deglan then started the bottom of the second by being hit by a pitch and was joined on the bases by CF Jordan Akins after a walk. One out later, a balk was called on Olacio, moving the runners to second and third. Odor then ripped an RBI single to right field, bringing in Deglan for the 2-0 advantage.

SS Hanser Alberto added a third run to the lead with a leadoff solo shot to start the third inning, before the Crawdads plated their final run in the fourth. With one away, Deglan worked a walk to get back on the bases. An Akins single advanced Deglan to third, and he then darted home on an RBI fielder's choice by C Kevin Torres, putting the 'Dads up, 4-0.

After RHP Nick McBride tossed four scoreless innings in a spot start, striking out three batters and scattering just three hits, RHP Phil Klein (W, 3-0) took over for the final three frames. Kannapolis (18-27) cut the 'Dads lead down with a run in the fifth and the seventh, but Klein kept Hickory in front en route to the 4-2 victory for the 'Dads.
