Rome Emperors News Release
Rome, GA - The Rome Braves swept the Augusta GreenJackets in a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at State Mutual Stadium. This marks the first home series victory and the first time this season Rome has won two consecutive games at home. Rome scored three runs in the first game for a 3-1 victory and amassed six runs in game two recording a 6-2 final.
Augusta opened up the scoring in game one in the third inning as Jeff Arnold doubled and scored on a groundout from Jesus Galindo after reaching third on an error by Braves shortstop, Elmer Reyes. Rome was quick to respond in the fourth scoring two runs on an RBI double by Will Skinner and a groundout from Brandon Drury. The Braves added another run in the sixth as Kyle Kubitza tripled and scored on an Augusta fielding error. Ryne Harper would record a save, coming on in the seventh to shut down the GreenJackets for the 3-1 final.
In game two Rome built a solid 5-0 lead behind Ryan Weber in his first start for the Braves. The Braves would send eight men to the plate, scoring five runs in the third inning, highlighted by an RBI single by William Beckwith. Augusta would try to battle back in the fourth, plating two on a Mark Minicozzi RBI double to cut Rome's lead 5-2. The Braves would add an insurance run in the sixth inning on an RBI single by Elmer Reyes. That would be all the offense in the game, as Ian Thomas would blank the GreenJackets in the seventh for the 6-2 victory.
Navery Moore (3-1) recorded the win in game one, going six innings, allowing two hits and one run and striking out five. Wilson Rivera (1-0) picked up the win in game two after coming on in the fifth to relieve Weber. Edwin Escobar (2-3) and Joseph Biagini (0-3) would both record losses for Augusta.
The Braves will try to complete the series sweep against the Augusta GreenJackets Wednesday afternoon at 1PM, before hosting the Asheville Tourists for five games May 24-27. For ticket information, contact the Rome Braves at 706-378-5144 or log onto www.romebraves.com.
