POWER REPLAY: West Virginia beat Lexington 4-2 on Monday evening at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Legends took a 2-0 lead after three innings before the Power cracked the scoreboard with a run in the fourth. Trailing 3-1 after four, West Virginia plated a run in the fifth on a ground out, tied the game at three in the seventh on Kirk Singer's first home run of the season, and then tallied the winner in the eighth on a run-scoring single by Gregory Polanco. Orlando Castro pitched four innings of shutout relief for the win and Robbie Kilcrease tosseda perfect ninth for his second save.
SHORT REST: Zack Dodson will move up in the rotation by one day and make the start tonight at Lexington. Dodson's most recent start was on the second day of this road trip when he allowed five runs on five hits and did not survive the first inning at Greenville. The southpaw did not face the Legends last week and did not factor in the decision in his lone 2011 start against Lexington (8/26/11 @ Appalachian Power Park- 3 R on 4 H over 4.0 IP in 7-5 WVP Win).
STREAKY SLIDES: The Power snapped a six game losing streak with Monday's victory at Lexington. Of West Virginia's 30 defeats this season, 28 of them have come during some sort of losing streak. The Power lost five straight during the opening road trip of the season, seven in a row from April 16 through 24, three in a row April 27-29, a seven game run from May 5 to 12, and this recent six game streak.
POWER V. LEGENDS: West Virginia has played Lexington more than any other team dating back to the 2005 season. The Power lead the all-time series 74-67, but have only gone 34-37 at Appalachian Power Park against the Legends since the stadium opened. West Virginia holds a 40-30 mark at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. The Power and Legends will meet in Lexington tonight and tomorrow, for two series in June (one at home and one on the road), and for a four-game set in Lexington in August.
REVISED ROTATION: With Zack Dodson moving up a day to pitch tonight, Robby Rowland will move into the rotation and start tomorrow's series finale at Lexington. The right-hander, acquired by Pittsburgh from Arizona on March 31 for Brett Lorin, has started 28 of the 29 games pitched during his professional career with the lone relief outing coming three days ago at Greenville. As a starter, Rowland is 6-13 with a 7.01 ERA (28 starts with Missoula in the Pioneer League).
BONUS BASEBALL: The Power have gone to extra innings four times this season, though have never played more than one extra inning in each of those games. West Virginia is 1-3 in extra inning games this year with the lone win coming on April 13 on a walk-off wild pitch against Greenville.
FREE PASSES: In 44 games this season, Power pitchers have walked 169 batters. In 2011, West Virginia pitchers had accumulated 162 walks by the end of June, spanning 76 games.
PROMO UPDATE- MAY 25: The Power will play a day-night doubleheader on May 25 against Kannapolis. The first game will start at 11:05 am and will be the final Grand Slam School Day of the season. The 7:05 pm nightcap will serve as a Hometown Heros game with a special discounted ticket package available for local law enforcement, fire, and life safety personnel.
POWER POINTS: West Virginia has now been swept in four different series this season, matching the total from the entire 2011 season... Alen Hanson did not start on Monday, just the second time he has been out of the Power starting lineup all season. He did, however, enter the game in the fifth inning.
AROUND THE ORGANIZATION: Pittsburgh beat the New York Mets 5-4. The Pirates trailed 4-0 after two innings before scoring the next five in the victory... Indianapolis won its second straight at Buffalo, taking an 8-6 final... Altoona doubled up Harrisburg 4-2... Bradenton lost 9-8 to Lakeland in 10 innings.
