Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 22, 2012) -- Kannapolis put the tying run on base in the seventh inning, but couldn't bring him home as the Intimidators fell to the Hickory Crawdads, 4-1, in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader at L.P. Frans Stadium. The Crawdads put up one run in each of the first four innings and stayed ahead the rest of the way to split the doubleheader and the series.
Crawdads starter Nick McBride kept Kannapolis off the scoreboard through four innings of work, allowing three hits and a walk while striking out three. Phil Klein (3-0) came in to work the final three innings to earn the win, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits.
Hickory took the early lead when Rougned Odor doubled to lead off the home half of the first inning, and Zach Cone doubled him home. Odor added an RBI-single in the second inning.
Hanser Alberto led off the third inning with a solo home run off Jefferson Olacio for a 3-0 Crawdads lead. Olacio (1-2) took a loss in his first start of the season, giving up four runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts in 3 and 1/3 innings.
Kannapolis ended Hickory's shutout bid in the fifth inning when Ross Wilson led off with a single and Mark Haddow cashed him with a two-out triple, cutting the Crawdads lead to 4-1.
Garis Pena led off the seventh inning with a single, and Grant Buckner singled aboard two batters later. With Mark Haddow batting, representing the tying run, Pena scored on a wild pitch. Klein walked Haddow to put the tying run on base but he struck out Leighton Pangilinan to end the game.
The Intimidators are off Wednesday before hitting the road to West Virginia for a four-game series over three days against the Power. The team returns to CMC-NorthEast Stadium on Memorial Day -- Monday, May 28 -- to open a seven-game home stand against the Rome Braves (Atlanta Braves) and Lakewood BlueClaws (Philadelphia Phillies).
