Milwaukee Admirals News Release
The American Hockey League (AHL) announced today that Milwaukee Admirals left wing Timofei Shishkanov has been selected as the AHL Rookie of the Month. Already enjoying an outstanding rookie campaign Shishkanov put together his finest month yet, registering nine goals, five assists (9g-4a=13pts) and a +11 rating in 15 games. Those nine tallies came on just 36 shots for a 25% shooting percentage.
The 6-1, 213-pound left wing hit the ground running on Feb. 1 when he lit the lamp twice, including the game winner, and also picked up an assist as Milwaukee topped Toronto 5-1. Shishkanov followed that game up with a two-point performance (1g-1a) versus Houston, propelling the Admirals to a 4-3 win in front of the biggest crowd of the year thus far at the Bradley Center. On Feb. 14 his red-lighter was the game winner when Milwaukee beat arch-rival Chicago 2-1 and extended their unbeaten streak to eight games. He finished the month with two goals in a 6-3 win over the Moose in Manitoba.
"Timofei has proven all year long that he is one of the top rookies in the American Hockey League," noted Admirals Head Coach Claude Noel. "He is one of the main reasons that we are so successful offensivly."
A native of Moscow, Russia and the Nashville Predators 2nd round pick (33rd overall) in the 2001 NHL entry draft, Shishkanov recorded four multi-point games and was even or better in 13 of the 15 contests as the Admirals recorded a team record 12 wins on the month. He currently sits atop the AHL rookie leader board in shots (151) and plus minus (+23), is tied for the top spot in points (41), and is second in goals (23) and game winning goals (4). His +23 is also second in the entire league, trailing only teammate Curtis Murphy (+25).
The Admirals finish a short two-game road trip in Manitoba tonight at 7:30 pm versus the Moose. Milwaukee will be home again this weekend for games on Friday and Saturday versus the Utah Grizzlies and Cincinnati Mighty Ducks, respectively. Game time for Friday is 7 pm and on Saturday is 8 o'clock.
