(PHILADELPHIA, March 2, 2004) - The Philadelphia Phantoms of the American Hockey League today announced that defenseman John Slaney has been named the Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month for February. Slaney, who recorded six goals and six assists in 12 games played last month, will receive his award prior to Philadelphia's game against the Albany River Rats this Monday, March 8 at 7:05 p.m.

Slaney, who led all Phantoms players in scoring in February, broke the AHL record for career goals by a defenseman last month with the game-winning goal on Feb. 21 in a 4-1 road win over the Hershey Bears. The goal was the 125th of his career in the AHL. Slaney also ended the month with a six-game point streak (6G, 3A), including a three-point performance in last Sunday's 5-3 victory over the league-leading Grand Rapids Griffins.

The 32-year-old ranks first among all AHL defensemen in goals (13), tied for first in power-play goals (7) and shorthanded goals (2), tied for second in game-winning goals (3) and 11th in points (31). Last month, Slaney played in his 400th AHL game on Feb. 25 at Cincinnati, recorded his 100th assist as a Phantom on Feb. 27 at Cincinnati and registered his 500th point as a pro on Feb. 28 at Milwaukee.

"I think that last month, John played some of his best hockey in his career as a Phantom," said head coach John Stevens. "He has been a dominant force for us in the back end all season long."

The Toyota Phantoms Player of the Month is new during the 2003-04 season, as a Phantoms player will be honored each month through the end of the regular season for his contributions on the ice. Mark Murphy received the award for the month of October, Kirby Law won in November, Randy Jones was the honoree in December and Antero Niittymaki was the recipient for January.

Tickets to all Phantoms home games are $19, $18 and $14 for adults, and $8 for all children 14 and under, and are available now at the Wachovia Center box office and all Ticketmaster locations throughout the Delaware Valley.
