Shark Snap Shot:
The Worcester Sharks (12-13-3-1, 28pts) chomped three out of a possible four points in two games last week against the top two teams in the Eastern Conference. Worcester began the weekend with a 5-4 shootout loss vs. the Manchester Monarchs at the DCU Center on Friday followed by a 4-2 win on Saturday in Syracuse to snap the Crunch's ten game winning streak.
Worcester sits in 5th place in the Atlantic Division with 28 points (12-13-3-1) and 14th overall in the Eastern Conference. The Sharks are just six points behind the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the 8th and final playoff spot in the East (Sharks have one game in hand).
Highlights from the week include Jeremy Langlois (3-2-5) and Bryan Lerg (1-3-4) each producing multi-point games in both games last weekend. Evan Trupp finished +4 through the two games and added his 7th goal of the season, the game winner on Saturday in Syracuse. Taylor Fedun is riding a three game point streak (0-3-3) and Matt Taormina picked up a goal and an assist last weekend. Newcomer Willie Coetzee picked up his 1st goal in his 2nd game as a Shark on Saturday and Troy Grosenick picked up his 8th win of the season in Syracuse.
Willie Coetzee was signed to an AHL contract on Thursday after beginning the season in Austria and then Reading (ECHL). Old friend Riley Brace was signed to a PTO on Dec 27 after piling up 28 points (9-19-28) with the Wheeling Nailers. Worcester's leading goal scorer and penalty minute leader Micheal Haley received his 1st NHL recall of the season on Friday and joined Matt Tennyson, Melker Karlsson, and Chris Tierney with the SJ Sharks.
The Worcester Sharks player of the week nominee is forward Jeremy Langlois. The 24-year-old from Tempe, AZ recorded five points (3-2-5), was +4, and fired nine shots on goal in two games last week to lead the way offensively for the Sharks.

MILESTONE ALERT:
Head Coach Roy Sommer surpassed Frank Mathers (1256 games coached) for the most games coached in AHL history on March 26 in the Sharks 5-3 win in Lewiston, ME over the Portland Pirates. Coach Sommer has coached 1297 AHL games - all with the SJ Sharks AHL affiliates. In total, Coach Sommer has been a head coach in 1,633 games in the AHL and ECHL. Roy needs 1 more win to tie John Paddock (589) for the 3rd most wins in AHL history.
Equipment Manager Chris Davidson-Adams was behind the bench for his 1,000th game as a professional hockey equipment manager on Friday, Dec 26 vs. Manchester. "Critter" has been an equipment manager for Dallas (NHL), San Jose (NHL), Muskegon (UHL), Grand Rapids (AHL), and Houston (IHL). Chris is in his 5th season as the head equipment manager of the Worcester Sharks.

The Worcester Sharks (11-13-3-1, 26pts) fell short in an entertaining 5-4 shootout loss to the red hot Manchester Monarchs (21-6-1-1, 44pts) in front of 3,346 fans at the DCU Center on Friday afternoon.
Worcester led 1-0, trailed 2-1 and 3-2, and led 4-3 before Brian O'Neill tied the score with 39 seconds left in the third period for Manchester to force overtime. Jeremy Langlois (2-1-3) and Bryan Lerg (1-1-2) led the way offensively for Worcester while Adam Burish put the Sharks ahead 4-3 at 8:16 of the third period. Brian O'Neill (1-1-2), Colin Miller (1-1-2), and Nick Shore (1-1-2) all had big games for Manchester as JF Berube picked up his AHL leading 16th win with 32 saves in net.
12.27.14 - Syracuse 2 - Worcester 4 - W - War Memorial Arena - Syracuse, NY
The Worcester Sharks (12-13-3-1, 28pts) have points in three straight games after a big 4-2 win over the Syracuse Crunch (20-8-3-0, 43pts) in front of 5,789 fans at the War Memorial Arena on Saturday evening. Matt Taormina, Willie Coetzee, Evan Trupp, and Jeremy Langlois scored goals for Worcester and Troy Grosenick made 23 saves in net for his 8th win of the season as the Sharks snapped Syracuse's ten game winning streak. Bryan Lerg added two assists for his third consecutive multipoint game as the Sharks extend their point streak to three games (1-0-1-1).

The Worcester Sharks (12-13-3-1, 28pts in 29gp) are in 5th place in the Atlantic Division; which is 18 points behind the 1st place Monarchs (46pts in 31gp), five points behind the 2nd place Bruins (33pts in 31gp), five points behind the 3rd place Pirates (33pts in 32gp), and two points behind the 4th place IceCaps (30pts in 32gp) to round out a very choppy Atlantic Division.

*4 National Champions... The Sharks have four players that won the NCAA Division 1 Championship.... Gus Young was captain with Yale University in 2013....Travis Oleksuk with University Minnesota Duluth in 2011...Bryan Lerg with Michigan State in 2007.... and Adam Burish with Wisconsin in 2006.
*Memorial Cup... rookie defenseman Konrad Abeltshauser won the Memorial Cup in 2013 with the Halifax Mooseheads (QMJHL) and was named to the 2013 Memorial Cup All-Star Team.

*Keeping your hat on (Thanks Ballou)... Worcester had gone 263 games without one of its players recording a hat trick before Daniil Tarasov scored three goals in Springfield on Oct 26. That was easily the longest active streak in the AHL. The Sharks' last hat trick had belonged to Dan DaSilva, who scored three times in Manchester during a 5-2 Worcester victory in Manchester on Feb. 14, 2010. Freddie Hamilton scored the first home hat trick in 206 games with three goals in a 5:12 span in the third period in a 4-1 win over the Pirates on Oct 26, 2014. It was the first home hat trick since P.J. Fenton had one on Feb. 28, 2009 in the Sharks' 7-3 victory over Springfield. In all, Worcester players have recorded hat tricks only ten times in the franchise's 657 games. The Sharks are 10-0 in those games and 1-15-3 in the 19 games in which the opposition has had a hat trick.
* Brothers... Freddie Hamilton is the older brother of Dougie Hamilton, who currently plays with the Boston Bruins.... Rylan Schwartz is the younger brother of Jayden Schwartz, who currently plays for the St. Louis Blues.
*Major Bonneau... Worcester Sharks tough guy Jimmy Bonneau has racked up 54 fighting majors in 140 games for the Worcester Sharks. Bonneau has set the Worcester Sharks record for most fighting majors in a season in 2011-12 with 22, surpassing Frazer McLaren (21 in 2008-09). Jimmy has 126 fighting majors in 333 AHL games along with 937 penalty minutes.
*Five for fighting...
