IceCaps Recall Ralfs Freibergs, Sign Yann Sauve to PTO

The St. John's IceCaps announced they have recalled defenceman Ralfs Freibergs from the Ontario Reign of the ECHL and have signed defenceman Yann Sauve to a professional tryout contract.

Freibergs, 23, played four games with the IceCaps after being recalled on December 5th, notching two assists. The Riga, Latvia native has suited up in 24 games with the Reign this season, collecting two goals and six assists with four penalty minutes and a +9 rating.

Sauve, a former second round pick by the Vancouver Canucks in the 2008 NHL Entry Draft, has played 195 career AHL games with the Manitoba Moose, Chicago Wolves and Utica Comets, collecting 40 points (7G, 33A) and 175 penalty minutes. Last season, Sauve suited up in 67 games with the Comets, notching 14 points (1G, 13A) and 63 penalty minutes. The 24-year-old has also played in eight NHL games with the Canucks. This season, the Montreal native has played five games with the Orlando Solar Bears (ECHL), recording a goal and an assist.

The team returns home for a seven-game home stand beginning January 6 and 7 versus the Monarchs, followed by a pair of games against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms (Jan. 10-11) and a three-game set versus the Portland Pirates (Jan. 14, 16 and 17).
