Daytona Tortugas News Release
Jupiter, FL - The Daytona Tortugas won their third consecutive game over the Jupiter Hammerheads, 7-4, Tuesday night at Roger Dean Stadium. Six different Tortugas drove in a run as Daytona returned to a .500 record for the first time since April 12. Daytona has won eight of their last ten games.
The Tortugas wasted no time, scoring multiple runs in each of the first three innings. In the first, with a pair of runners on, Angelo Gumbs roped a double down the third base line to score Blake Trahan for the early 1-0 lead. Gavin LaValley followed with an RBI groundout to second to bring home Arisitdes Aquino, who reached on an Avery Romero error, padding the lead, 2-0.
In the second, after a Blake Butler fielder's choice brought home the third run, Trahan sliced a double down the right field line to score Butler for a quick 4-0 advantage. Jupiter answered with a run in their half of the second inning on an RBI single by Romero to make it 4-1.
However, Daytona's offense continued their relentless attack. After a sacrifice fly from Taylor Sparks drove home Gumbs, who led the inning off with a walk, Chadwick Tromp smacked a double into the left field corner to scored LaValley all the way from first for a commanding 6-1 lead.
Jupiter would score three unanswered runs between the third and fifth innings, all off the bat of Taylor Ard. He lofted a sacrifice fly to right field in the third to make it a 6-2 ballgame before hit a two-run homer in the fifth off RHP Nick Howard to cut the deficit to 6-4. Daytona added a run in the sixth on a Justin Bohn fielding error to score Jonathan Reynoso from second, who had reached on a dropped third strike, to give the game its final 7-4 score.
RHP Jimmy Moran (2-0) picked up the win as he tossed two scoreless innings of relief. FSL All-Star RHP Jake Ehret notched his sixth save of the season, throwing a 1-2-3 ninth. Jupiter's LHP Dillon Peters (5-4) suffered the loss, lasting just three innings while alloweing six runs, four of which were earned.
The Tortugas look for the series sweep Wednesday at Roger Dean Stadium. LHP Seth Varner (4-4, 2.87 ERA) will get the nod for Daytona against FSL All-Star RHP Luis Castillo (5-3, 2.15 ERA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 PM with the Chili's pre-game show beginning at 6:20 PM on AM 1230 and AM 1490 WSBB.
Notes: Daytona scored the most runs through their first four innings since May 31 when they scored seven runs in the first four innings against Dunedin...Moran, Ehret and Brennan Bernardino combined to toss four scoreless innings to close out the game...Blake Trahan has notched multiple hits in three straight games.
