Seven-Run Sixth Sends Augusta to 7-4 Win over Legends

(WHITAKER BANK BALLPARK, Lexington, Ky.) The Augusta GreenJackets scored seven runs on two hits in the sixth inning on their way to a 7-4 win over the Lexington Legends Saturday night. The GreenJackets benefited from five walks, a hit batsman and an error in their big inning.

The Legends took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Dominique Taylor led off with a double and scored on a single by Humberto Arteaga. Fred Ford doubled, scoring Arteaga, and Ford went to third on the throw to home. Ford scored when Dex Kjerstad grounded out to first base.

The 3-0 lead held up until the sixth. Rando Moreno was hit by pitch to start the inning, and Ryder Jones drew a walk. After Legends starter Cody Reed was relieved by Matt Alvarez, Brandon Bednar singled, scoring Moreno as Jones went to third. Tyler Horan walked, loading the bases, and a wild pitch allowed Jones to score. Ty Ross walked to load the bases again. Rafael Rodguez singled home Bednar with the tying run, and after John Polonius struck out, Ryan Tuntland walked, forcing in the go-ahead run for Augusta. Chris Lofton's line drive went off the glove of Arteaga, the shortstop, scoring another run and giving Augusta a 5-3 lead.

A walk to Moreno scored Rodriguez, and Jones hit a sacrifice fly to center field to bring Tuntland home with the final run of the inning.

Lexington's Frank Schwindel led off the bottom of the eighth with a home run to close out the scoring. It was Schwindel's fifth homer in his last five games .

Augusta starter Matt Lujan (6-2), after surviving the three-run second inning, worked seven innings and picked up the win. Alvarez (1-1) was the losing pitcher.

The GreenJackets have won two out of three in the series, which concludes Sunday. Game time is 6:05 p.m.
