Kannapolis Cannon Ballers News Release
KANNAPOLIS, NC - Hunter Jones went 2-for-2 and scored twice as the Kannapolis Intimidators finished off a doubleheader sweep of the Hagerstown Suns by taking Game 2, 4-3 (F/7), on Saturday in front of 3,980 at CMC-NorthEast Stadium.
Kannapolis (24-29) trailed 1-0 heading to the bottom of the first before Hunter Jones drew a leadoff walk and Cleuluis Rondon was hit by a pitch. Three batters later, Trey Michalczewski connected on a two-out, two-run double to put the Intimidators head, 2-1.
Hagerstown responded with two runs in the third. With men on the corners and one out, Carlos Lopez flew out to right field, but Jacob Morris' throw to the plate popped out of the glove of catcher Jeremy Dowdy as Wilmer Difo slid home to tie the game. With the ball loose, John Wooten broke from first to second, and Andre Wheeler's throw to second base sailed into the outfield and rolled all the way to the wall, allowing Wooten to put the Suns up, 3-2.
The Intimidators bounced back in the home half of the inning. Jones led off with a base hit, stole second and scored on a Danny Hayes double to tie the game. Morris followed with a base hit to plate Hayes for a 4-3 lead.
Jordan Guerroro (3-0) earned the relief win with a pair of scoreless innings after starter Andre Wheeler worked 4.0 innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on seven hits. David Putman spun a scoreless seventh for the save (3).
Jefry Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss for the Suns, allowing four runs on four hits in 3.0 innings.
Earlier in the evening, Kannapolis beat Hagerstown, 3-2, in the first game of the doubleheader, taking the lead in the fifth inning on a Hunter Jones two-run home run.
