Lansing Lugnuts News Release
LANSING, Mich. - The Fort Wayne TinCaps (2-6, 45-32) plated seven runs to blow the game open in the fifth inning and trounce the Lansing Lugnuts (2-6, 34-43), 8-1, in front of 5,640 fans at Cooley Law School Stadium on Thursday night.
The loss drops the Lugnuts to 1-10 this season against the TinCaps, with Fort Wayne recording 10 or more hits in 10 of the 11 meetings.
With a 1-0 lead in hand, Fort Wayne exploded in the fifth against Lugnuts starter Roberto Osuna (Loss, 3-4).
The scoring started with Corey Adamson singling to center past the drawn-in infield, plating two to put the TinCaps up 3-0 before an RBI single by Maxx Tissenbaum pushed the lead to 4-0. Luis Tejada singled to left to score two more and the final blow came on a two-run triple by Luis Domoromo, his second three-bagger of the inning, firmly putting the TinCaps up, 8-0.
Osuna lasted 4.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits with four walks. He issued two walks. The final four runs for Fort Wayne came off reliever Tucker Donahue.
Offensively for Lansing, the only run of the game was on a Chris Hawkins home-run, his second in four game, a solo shot in the bottom half of the fifth inning. Aaron Munoz finished 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of singles and he was twice hit by a pitch, reaching in all four plate appearances.
Otherwise, Fort Wayne starter Zach Eflin (Win, 4-4) stifled the Lansing bats to the tune of five innings of one-run ball. He allowed four hits and struck out eight batters, tying a career high set earlier this season.
The series rubber match will be played Friday night on a Freebie Friday featuring Kids Eat Free, followed by postgame LAFCU Fireworks. Right-hander Javier Avendaño (5-5, 4.38) will get the start for Lansing with left-hander Max Fried (2-2, 4.07) on the mound for Fort Wayne.
