Loons Sink Captains, 3-1

(Eastlake, OH) - The Great Lakes Loons added an insurance run in the top of the sixth inning and defeated the Lake County Captains by a final of 3-1. In the inning, Tyler Ogle walked, and got to third base on a double by Joe Winker. Brandon Dixon knocked home Ogle on a fielder's choice and that made the score 3-1. The Loons (6-2) have taken the first two games of the series against Lake County (5-3), Lake County falls out of first place with the loss.

In the fourth inning, the Loons scored first. Corey Seager singled to right field to lead off the inning. With one out, Jeremy Rathjen hit his third HR of the season, the two run shot to right field made the score 2-0 Great Lakes. The Captains answered backing the bottom of the fourth. Anthony Santander hit a lead off single, and motored home on an RBI double from Eric Haase. The Loons lead was trimmed to 2-1.

RHP Robbie Aviles (1-3) started for Lake County. Aviles pitched five and two thirds innings yielding three earned runs on five hits. Aviles walked four and struck out four and gave up one homer. Aviles took the loss. Jack Wagoner pitched one and one third scoreless innings and allowed just one hit. Wagoner struck out two. Josh Martin pitched two innings and did not allow a run while fanning five.

Great Lakes started RHP Brandon Martinez (1-0). Martinez earned his first win of the season. Martinez twirled six innings, and allowed one earned run on seven hits. Martinez walked two and had one strike out. Scott Griggs entered in the seventh for the Loons and pitched two innings. Griggs struck out all six batters he faced. Craig Stem earned his seventh save of the season, and his second in as many days against the Captains.

Friday's game will be followed by a Fireworks Friday Night, presented by Universal Windows Direct. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive a Skipper Mascot Wall Decal presented by Bod Shotz by Bruce and Bruce Custom Graphics.

Friday is also the Captains' annual "Salute to Cleveland Sports History Night". The inaugural event in 2009 was named ESPN the Magazine's "Minor League Promotion of the Year". The night will include Cleveland Sports history-themed on-field promotions and appearances and autograph sessions by Cleveland sports legends.

This year's guests scheduled to appear include former Browns stars Bob Golic and Hanford Dixon; Matt Wilhelm, a member of the 2002 Ohio State National Championship team and 2010 Super Bowl winning Green Bay Packers; Super Bowl XVIII Hero and Cleveland native Jack Squirek; the NFL's 1991 Mr. Irrelevant and John Carroll product Larry Wanke; Professional Bass Fisherman Frank Scalish and several members of the Legends Football League's Cleveland Crush, a women's professional football league. Indians Drummer John Adams will also be manning the bleachers.

In addition, there will be two book signings related to Cleveland sports history during the game as Scott Longert, author of the book "The Best They Could Be, How the Cleveland Indians Became the Kings of Baseball, 1916-1920" will be in attendance along with co-authors Ken Krsolovic and Bryan Fritz, who wrote the book "League Park, Historic Home of Cleveland Baseball, 1891-1946."

The Captains will wear Cleveland Indians early 70's themed throwback jerseys that night and fans will have the opportunity to bid on the jerseys and take them off the player's backs during a post-game on-field presentation. All jersey auction proceeds benefit Captains Charities.

The Captains Friday Night Concert Series continues with Run Avril Run, who has been packing dance floors since 1999. They will perform on stage adjacent to Castaways Bar, which will remain open throughout the show.
