Seven Philadelphia Union Players Receive International Call Ups

CHESTER, Pa. - Philadelphia Union today announced that seven players have received international call ups from their respective federations ahead of the upcoming FIFA international window. Andre Blake, Alvas Powell, Cory Burke, Jamiro Monteiro, Olivier Mbaizo, Daniel Gazdag, and Jose Martinez have joined their respective countries' teams for 2022 World Cup Qualifier matches. These call ups come in addition to Paxten Aaronson, Jack McGlynn and Quinn Sullivan receiving call ups to the U-20 USMNT training camp in Celaya, Mexico where they will compete in the Revelations Cup in preparation for the 2022 Concacaf U-20 Championship.

Blake, Powell, and Burke have once again joined the Jamaican National Team for their pair of matches in the group stage of the World Cup qualifiers . Blake and Powell were last called up in October for their three qualifying matches which Burke missed due to injury. Blake, who captains the squad, has 54 caps as the starting goalkeeper for the team. In his most recent World Cup Qualifier matches, Blake recorded five saves in a 2-0 win against Honduras, picked up a clean sheet against Canada, and registered five saves against the U.S. Powell, has 57 caps and featured in two of the three of Jamaica's most recent qualifier matches. Jamaica will face El Salvador (Nov. 12, 10:00 p.m.) and the United States (Nov. 16, 5:00 p.m.).

Monteiro and Mbaizo join the Cape Verde National Team and Cameroon National Team respectively as they continue the third round of the FIFA World Cup African Qualifiers. Both players last played for their national sides in October for their pair of matches in the second round of qualifiers.

Monteiro has earned 14 caps for Cape Verde, four in World Cup qualifiers as well as nine in Africa Cup of Nations qualification matches and one in an International Friendly. Monteiro featured in both matches, scoring his first goal for Cape Verde in a 2-1 win against Liberia on October 7, 2021. Cape Verde will face Central African Republic at home (Nov. 13, 11:00 a.m.), then go on the road to face Nigeria (Nov. 16, 11:00 a.m.).

This is Mbaizo's sixth senior team call up for Cameroon as they also prepare for two matches of World Cup Qualifiers. He has earned five senior international caps for the Indomitable Lions, his first when he made his debut as a substitute in a friendly vs. Gabon on September 6, 2016. Cameroon will play against Malawi (Nov. 13, 11:00 a.m.) and Ivory Coast (Nov. 16, 11:00 a.m.).

Gazdag returns to the Hungarian National Team for their pair of matches in the group stage of the European qualifiers. Gazdag has earned nine caps, and most recently joined the squad this past October. In his six appearances, Gazdag has scored one goal in a World Cup qualifying match against Andorra on March 31, 2021. Hungary will play against San Marino (Nov. 12, 2:45 p.m.) and Poland (Nov. 15, 2:45 p.m.).

Martinez was called up by the Venezuelan National Team after a standout three-game run with the team in October for the World Cup Qualifiers. Martinez, who has a total of 11 caps for La Vinotinto, played in all three matches for Venezuela in the tournament. He also notched his first assist for the national team in a 1-1 draw against Ecuador on June 20. Martinez who made his debut for the team in a World Cup qualifier match on June 3, 2021, against Bolivia, will join them again for their matches vs. Ecuador (Nov. 11, 4:00 p.m.) and Peru (Nov. 16, 6:00 p.m.).
