Seattle Sounders FC News Release
SEATTLE, WASH. - Two more Seattle Sounders FC players have been called into international duty, as Alex Roldan and Xavier Arreaga are set to join the El Salvador and Ecuador, respectively, for upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches.
The two players join Yeimar Gómez Andrade (Colombia), Crisitan Roldan (United States) and Nouhou (Cameroon) who were all previously announced to be joining their respective national teams for the November round of qualifying matches. Danny Leyva has also been called up to the U-20 U.S Men's National Team to compete in the Revelations Cup in Celaya, Mexico.
Alex Roldan, 25, earns his fourth career call-up for El Salvador, previously getting the nod for the team's 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup tournament run and starting all six 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. He scored a goal in his first appearance with the squad, a 2-0 win over Guatemala at this summer's Gold Cup. El Salvador is scheduled to play Jamaica on November 12 and Panama on November 16. La Selecta stands in seventh place in the Concacaf standings (1-3-2, 5 points). Alex Roldan started 26 matches for Sounders FC during its 2021 campaign, scoring one goal.
Arreaga, 27, reports for another round of World Cup qualifiers, having already appeared in eight matches (seven starts) during Ecuador's 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign. La Tri is set to play two matches, one against Venezuela on November 11 and another versus Chile on November 16. Ecuador is currently in third place in the CONMEBOL World Cup Qualifying table (5-5-2, 17 points). Arreaga finished the regular season with 26 appearances for the Rave Green this year.
After emerging earning a road point in a 1-1 draw against Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Decision Day at BC Place, the Rave Green prepare to host Real Salt Lake in a first-round matchup in the Audi 2021 MLS Cup Playoffs.
