 Asheville Tourists

Series in Greenville Concludes on a Low Note

June 6, 2021 - South Atlantic League (SAL)
Asheville Tourists News Release

GREENVILLE- The Asheville Tourists finished off their second road series of the season the same way they finished the first; losing five out of six games. Asheville fell to the Greenville Drive in Sunday's series finale 15-3. The 12-run loss is the largest the Tourists have endured this season.

The Tourists had won eight of 12 games, all at home, prior to commencing a 12-game road trip that is now at its halfway point. Asheville's offense during the homestand thrived and picked up a pitching effort that struggled at times. During the six-game Greenville series, the Tourists scored a total of 19 runs and not once did they score more than four in a game. The unit as a whole went 2-for-53 with runners in scoring position during the six-game set.

The pitching staff had a difficult time picking up the hitters. It was actually worse in this series than anything Asheville has shown at home. The Tourists allowed 52 runs to the Drive and walked 40 batters.

Sunday's series finale did have a few highlights. Alex McKenna hit his third Home Run of the series and Matt Barefoot clubbed a two-run Home Run. Yeremi Ceballos and Chandler Casey both pitched well out of the bullpen and are turning into a pair of Asheville's most reliable relievers.

The Tourists will look to salvage their current time away from home during the second leg of their road trip which begins on Tuesday evening in Rome, Georgia. The second place Rome Braves have lost four straight games. Asheville enters the series in sixth place but sit only five games back of first.
