Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release


Today's first pitch will be at 5:35 PM CT. The Hot Rods won the series with last night's 7-5 win over the Braves and are three games up in the South Division standings.

On Saturday... A four-run fifth inning vaulted the Hot Rods to a 7-5 win on Saturday. Ruben Cardenas and Evan Edwards both launched two-run homers in the inning. Jayden Murray tied his season-high with 5.0 innings on the mound, giving up one earned run and striking out four. The win locked up the series victory for the Hot Rods and they improve to 7-4 against the Braves this season.

About Rome... Rome has scored first in all five games of the series so far. On Saturday, they scored in the first and fourth, taking a 2-0 lead. They were held scoreless until the eighth inning, where they scored two runs on a bases-loaded double by Logan Brown, bringing it within two runs.

Third Inning Theatrics... With 28 runs scored in the third inning, Bowling Green has been able to erase early leads. 28 is the most scored in any inning for the Hot Rods this season. Their seven homers in the third is tied with the fifth inning for the most powerful inning in 2021.

Battle at the Top... The Hot Rods hold a 3.0 game lead in the High-A East South Division. With a Winston-Salem loss on Saturday, The Braves are still tied with the Dash in second place with a 15-14 record. The Hot Rods are tied for the most wins in the league with the Aberdeen IronBirds at 18.

Still Streaking... In 24 games played this season, Ruben Cardenas has reached base in every one. There have only been three games he has not recorded a hit but earned a walk in each one. He has also mounted a 14 game hit streak. Over his last 14 games, Cardenas is 16-56 (.286) with five homers, 13 RBIs, and five walks.

Saturday's Notes... Cardenas increased his on-base streak to 24 games and his hit streak to 14 games... He also hit his team-leading seventh homer... Cardenas had his team-leading eighth multi-hit game... This was his fifth multi-RBI game in 2021... Edwards hit his first home run since May 9th against the Greenville Drive... This was his second multi-RBI game and fourth multi-hit game of the season... Murray's 5.0 innings ties a season-high... This is the third time he has tossed 5.0 innings in 2021... Bowling Green has hit seven homers in the fifth inning this season... This ties the third inning as the most for the Hot Rods this year... BG tied their season-high win streak with four... They are now 7-4 against the Braves this year... This is their 15th win all-time against Rome...

Now pitching: Joe La Sorsa... The lefty pitched the first game of this homestand out of the Bullpen. In that game, he tossed 3.0 innings and gave up one run on a homer, while walking three and striking out four. LaSorsa made his last start in Asheville, North Carolina against the Tourists. He gave up four runs and two home runs over 2.0 innings of work. Overall, the lefty has a 1-0 record with 2.92 ERA while holding left-handed hitters to just a .130 average this season.
