Asheville Tourists News Release
Asheville, NC--One day after being shut out by the Augusta GreenJackets, the Asheville Tourists responded with an 11-3 victory in front of over 3,000 strong at McCormick Field. In their final Sunday home game of the season, the Tourists treated their fans to an impressive performance and won the series against the GrenJackets three games to one.
Zach Jemiola was masterful for Asheville. The right-hander worked seven innings and allowed only an unearned run in the top of the seventh. The game was well out of hand before then.
In the bottom of the first, Correlle Prime made it 2-0 with a two-run Home Run to deep left.
Raimel Tapia added a solo homer in the bottom of the third. Joan Gregorio, Augusta's stating pitcher, then ran into a ton of trouble in the fourth.
Asheville loaded the bases with no outs when Max White and Wilfredo Rodriguez clubbed back- to-back two-run doubles. Rodriguez scored later in the inning on a wild pitch. The damage was not done as Prime and Dillon Thomas each added RBI singles in the inning. After the seven-run fourth inning barrage, the Tourists led 10-0.
Later in the game, Rodriguez recorded another RBI single. Augusta's Gabriel Cornier hit a two- run Home Run in the top of the ninth, but the result was never in doubt.
The Tourists first-baseman, Prime, finished 5-for-5 while Tapia and Rodriguez each contributed with three base hits. Ryan McMahon also had a multi-hit game and scored twice. McMahon now leads the league in runs scored with 85.
After Monday's off day, Asheville hits the road to Kannapolis to begin a three game series against the Intimidators. Tuesday's first pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm.
