The Fourth Annual MiLB.com Minors Moniker Madness is underway and Greensboro Grasshoppers outfielder Sequoyah Stonecipher has been selected as a candidate for the best name in all of Minor League Baseball.

The bracket-style tournament, featuring 64 of the best names in the Minor Leagues, is a head-to-head competition to determine who should be named winner of the Wonderful Terrific Monds III Award.

The award, named in honor of former minor leaguer Wonderful Terrific Monds III, has been presented to past winners Houston Summers (2007), Will Startup (2008) and Dusty Napoleon (2009).

Stonecipher, whose full name is Sequoyah Trueblood Stonecipher, was drafted by the Florida Marlins of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft.

The Native American who created Cherokee syllabary, which makes reading and writing in Cherokee possible, is Sequoyah's namesake. The middle name Trueblood is a family name from his mother's Native American side and also that of Sequoyah's great-great uncle.

Stonecipher, the number one seed in the Farmer Works bracket, is matched against number 16 seed T.J. Large from the Pawtucket Red Sox in the first round. To cast your vote for Sequoyah and check out the entire field, go to www.minorleaguebaseball.com/madness. Voting for the first round will last through July 26, so be sure to vote early and often for your favorites.
