The Rome Braves overcame four errors to beat the Lexington Legends 9-5 Wednesday afternoon in Rome.

The Legends took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a walk to Jake Goebbert and a double by Kody Hinze. Hinze leads the South Atlantic League with 70 RBI.

Rome came back with three in the bottom of the first. A walk to Phil Gosselin and a base hit by Brent Clevelen, who was on a rehab assignment from the Atlanta Braves, put runners at first and second. Joe Leonard bunted to move the runners over, and Lexington pitcher Juan Minaya threw late to third base in an attempt to get a force play. The next two hitters drew bases loaded walks to put Rome on top 2-1, and a sacrifice fly by Jake Hanson brought a third run home.

The Legends scored a run in the second. Jonathan Meyer reached on Clevelen's error in right field, and went to second on an infield hit by Brian Kemp. Jose Altuve's single scored Meyer to cut the lead to one at 3-2.

Rome added a run in the third to make the score 4-2, and the Braves scored twice in the fifth. Joe Leonard led off with a walk and went to second on an infield out. Todd Cunningham was hit by a pitch, and after Hanson flied to right, Edward Salcedo singled to score Leonard. Daniel Sarisky relieved Minaya at that point, and Jace Whitmer followed with an RBI double to give Rome a 6-2 lead.

The Legends cut the lead to one with a three run rally in the sixth. Aaron Bray doubled with one out and went to third on a single by Jonathan Meyer. Rene Garcia walked to load the bases. Brian Kemp grounded to shortstop Salcedo, who threw past second, allowing Bray and Meyer to score. Garcia came home on Grant Hogue's infield grounder to make the score 6-5.

But Rome came back with a run in the bottom of the sixth, and added two more in the seventh on a triple by Salcedo and a home run by Whitmer to close out the scoring.

Rome starter Brett De Vall (6-6) got his second victory over Lexington this season. Minaya (4-9) lost to Rome for the second time.

The series, now even at one win apiece, continues with a 7 p.m. game Thursday night. Attendance at State Mutual Stadium: 2,407 box score at http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/stats/stats.jsp'sid=t495&t=g_box&gid 10_07_21_lexafx_romafx_1
