Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Trenton Thunder completed a four-game sweep of the Harrisburg Senators on Sunday with a 5-2 victory in Trenton. Waterfront Park hosted a crowd of 6894 for the July 4th contest.
The Senators (38-45) took the first lead of the game for the second straight night, this time scoring a single run in the fifth inning to make the score 1-0. But Trenton (51-31) struck back with two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the seventh to take a 5-1 advantage, and led for the remainder of the game. The Sens scored one run in the top of the ninth inning to draw within three runs, but could get no closer.
Hector Noesi (6-1) earned the win for Trenton, throwing seven strong innings, and allowing just one run. Tom Milone (6-4) took the loss for the Sens, despite giving up just two runs in four innings.
The run for the Sens in the fifth inning came after Marvin Lowrance drew a leadoff walk, and then advanced to second on a Jesus Valdez groundout. Tim Pahuta then singled Lowrance home, to give the Sens a 1-0 lead. In the ninth inning, Jhonatan Solano drove in Michael Martinez with an RBI single, and brought the tying run to the plate, with just one out. Ofilio Castro came to the plate with Pahuta on third, and Solano on first. But reliever J.B. Cox got Castro, and then Brad Coon, to ground out to end the ballgame.
After the four-game sweep, the Senators have lost five straight, and head home for a four-game set with the Richmond Flying Squirrels. On Monday, left-hander John Lannan (1-1, 4.85) makes another start for the Sens, as he tries to work his way back to the Washington Nationals. Fans at Metro Bank Park will also be treated to a post-July 4th fireworks show, one day late. The first pitch is scheduled for 7 PM, with radio coverage beginning at 6:45 on 1460 AM The Ticket and www.senatorsbaseball.com.
