July 4, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Altoona Curve News Release
Reading, PA - Despite grabbing a pair of first inning runs, the Altoona Curve were unable to prevent big hits by the Reading Phillies who came back from the early deficit and in the second time in as many days defeating the Curve 6-4 at First Energy Stadium on the Fourth of July.
Chase d'Arnaud and Gorkys Hernandez, who extended his season-best hitting streak to eight games were able to get aboard early and both came around to score. Matt Hague's RBI ground out brought in the first Altoona run, while Jordy Mercer's RBI double made it 2-0.
Reading (39-42) would immediately counter scoring in the next three innings, grabbing a run in the first on an RBI double by Matt Rizzotti, a pair in the second on a two-run homer by Tuffy Gosewisch before Kevin Mahar's third inning RBI groundout gave the R-Phils a 4-2 edge.
Altoona (52-30) would draw within a run when Anthony Norman's RBI single in the top of the sixth brought home Mercer to make the score 4-3, but that's as close as the Curve would get.
Reading tacked on a pair of runs in the bottom of the sixth to take a commanding 6-3 edge.
Hague blasted a solo home run to lead off the seventh inning and cut the score to 6-4, but Altoona would be held silent the rest of the way.
RHP Jared Hughes drops back-to-back decisions for the first time all season as he suffers the loss going 5.2 innings. He allowed six runs (five earned) on nine hits.
