Aeros Lose RHP Stowell to Columbus

July 4, 2010 - Eastern League (EL1)
Akron RubberDucks News Release

The Aeros made a roster move today as RHP Bryce Stowell was promoted to Class AAA Columbus and LHP Nick Hagadone was received from Class A Mahoning Valley. Hagadone will be starting for Akron tonight in their road trip finale at 6:05 p.m. at Prince George's Stadium against the Bowie Baysox.

Stowell, a fan selection for the 2010 Eastern League All-Star Game, was absolutely dominant in his 14 appearances with the Aeros this season. The closer pitched a shutout eighth inning Saturday night to extend his scoreless streak to 22.1 consecutive innings in Double-A with 33 strikeouts against 11 walks. Eastern League opponents only batted .192 against Stowell since his promotion from Class A Kinston on May 20th. On the season, the UC-Irvine product now has 74 strikeouts and a 0.76 ERA in 47.2 combined innings between Akron and Kinston, and he will soon be making his first-ever appearance for the Clippers.

Hagadone returns to the Aeros today after spending the last week on the roster for the Scrappers. He last pitched for Akron on June 24th against Richmond, allowing two runs in three innings while taking the no-decision in the start. In his five outings in Double-A this year, the 6'5" left-hander out of the University of Washington is 1-0 with a 6.16 ERA and 21 strikeouts against 16 walks in 19.0 innings pitched. He is still recovering from June 2008 Tommy John reconstructive elbow surgery and was named the third-best prospect in the Indians system prior to the 2010 season by Baseball America. Cleveland acquired the former first-round pick from the Boston Red Sox in a trade for Victor Martinez last July.
