Binghamton Devils News Release
SYRACUSE, NY - Brett Seney scored the eventual game-winning goal on the power play in the second period and Ken Appleby stopped 36 shots in a 4-2 win on the road over the Syracuse Crunch on Sunday night.
After no scoring through the first 14 minutes of the game, the Devils and Crunch combined for three goals in the span of 2:10. Christoph Bertschy got the scoring going with his 14th of the year on a rebound on the power play for a 1-0 lead. Jacob MacDonald and Michael Kapla recorded assists and the goal came at 14:53.
Troy Bourke tied the game less than two minutes later as Alexey Lipanov made a great play to set him up on his first of the year. Bourke's goal sailed over the glove of goaltender Ken Appleby with helpers from Lipanov and Carter Verhaeghe at 16:51 of the first.
As the goal was being announced in the background, Michael Latta fed Tim Kennedy at the top of the crease and he beat Ingram through the legs for his fourth goal of the year and the Devils took a 2-1 lead. Latta and Kevin Rooney were credited with the assists and the Devils took the one-goal lead into the second period, along with an 11-6 shot advantage.
Brett Seney scored the lone goal of the second period on the power play to give the Devils a 3-1 lead. MacDonald deflected the puck to Bertschy and he fed Seney down the left wall who ripped a shot over the shoulder of Ingram for his second of the year. The goal was assisted by Bertschy and MacDonald and the Devils took a two-goal lead into the third period.
In the third period, Jan Mandat scored his second goal in as many games to give the Devils a 4-1 lead. Ben Thomson sent a great backhand pass to Mandat for his third of the season with assists from Thomson and Branon Baddock for the three-goal lead at 11:58 of the third.
In the end, Matthew Peca scored a power-play goal to pull the Crunch back within two goals, but, the Devils held on for the 4-2 victory. Appleby stopped 36 of 38 for his 10th win over the year while Ingram denied 18 in the loss.
