BEARS AT CHECKERS: Hershey finishes out the road portion of the regular season schedule this evening as they visit the Charlotte Checkers at the Bojangles' Coliseum. The Bears have struggled mightily on the road this season, going 13-22-0-2 away from Giant Center. The Checkers are 8-1-1-0 over their past 10 games and officially clinched a spot in the 2018 Calder Cup Playoffs last night.
LAST TIME OUT: These same two teams met last night at the Bojangles' Coliseum. The Chocolate and White dropped a 7-3 decision in a game that Charlotte pulled away in during the third period. The two teams traded goals in the first period as Janne Kuokkanen scored just 1:01 into the contest, but Chris Bourque responded with a power play goal at 6:05. After Julien Gauthier gave the Checkers the lead on the power play at 11 minutes, Bourque scored again at 17:30, striking on the man-advantage. In the second period, Charlotte opened up a 4-2 lead, but Zach Sill's deflection goal pulled Hershey within one heading into the locker room. In the third period, Charlotte scored three times, and Kuokkanen struck for two goals in 12 seconds to complete the hat trick, and a five-point game. Hershey was held to just 17 shots in the loss and went 2-for-8 on the power play. Charlotte was 3-for-5.
STRONG FINISH FOR SILL: Veteran forward Zach Sill scored his seventh goal of the season last night, and the forward is now up to 22 points on the year. This ties his output in the 2015-16 campaign as his highest point total as a Bear. The Nova Scotia native has posted five points (two goals, three assists) over his past six contests.
APPLES FOR LANGER: Jeremy Langlois assisted on Chris Bourque's second power play goal last night, giving him his 12th assist of the 2017-18 season. For Langlois, this year has been a bounce back season. He scored just 14 points (eight goals, six assists) in 66 games with Rockford last year. With injuries limiting him to just 49 games with Hershey this season, Langlois has 17 points (five goals, 12 assists). The Tempe, Arizona native has assists in three straight games for Hershey.
MOVE OVER MITCH: Chris Bourque scored a pair of goals yesterday, giving him 195 tallies in his regular season Hershey career. The forward now sits alone in sole possession of seventh place all-time in franchise history in goals. His second power play marker last night helped him pass AHL and Hershey Hall of Famer Mitch Lamoureux, who had 194 career goals as a member of the Chocolate and White. Next up, Bourque will try and chase down Gil Gilbert who finished his career in Hershey with 206 goals and ranks sixth on the all-time list. Bourque leads the Bears with 52 points on the 2017-18 season (16 goals, 36 assists).
