Harrisburg Senators News Release
The Senators dropped their third straight game on Friday and their toughest loss yet this year, 8-7 to the Binghamton Mets. Harrisburg led 7-5 into the bottom of the ninth but couldn't hold the lead and with the loss, the Sens fall to 3-6 while the B-Mets improve to 6-3 on the season.
The Sens had at least one hit in every inning except one, scoring in five different frames. They had at least one base runner in every frame and had at least two in eight of the nine frames. The 13 hits for the Senators was a season best. Five different Senators had two hits as Caleb Ramsey, Tony Renda, Pedro Severino, Delta Cleary Jr., and Matt Skole all stroked two hits. Renda has hit safely in all nine games this year and the two hits for Severino were his first hits of the season.
The game went back and forth with the Senators leading 3-1, then 5-3, then 7-5, but leaving 13 on base including seven in scoring position. Harrisburg loaded the bases to start the third and sixth innings, combing to score three runs between the two opportunities. They went just 3 for 18 with runners in scoring position.
On the hill, Tim Alderson went 5.2 innings allowing five runs before giving way to Colin Bates. Bates went 2.1 innings walking one and striking out, sending the game into the ninth inning with the Senators leading 7-5.
In the fateful ninth, Paul Demny allowed a leadoff single to Eudy Pina, he induced pinch-hitter Josh Rodriguez to pop out to short stop for the first out. Then Gavin Cecchini hit a ball to short stop that looked like it could be a game ending double-play, but the Senators failed to turn it and it turned into a fielder's choice instead. Demny then walked the next two hitters before allowing a three-run double to Jayce Boyd to deliver the win for the B-Mets.
Game three of the four game series is Saturday afternoon at 1:05 p.m. as the Senators send RH Matt Swynenberg to the mound as the Sens look to snap a three-game losing streak. The game can be heard at beginning at 12:50 p.m. on Fox Sports 1460am and on iHeart Radio.
