Former MLB All-Star to Sign Autographs Tomorrow at Rock Cats Game

New Britain, CT- The New Britain Rock Cats Baseball Club, the Double-A Eastern League Affiliate of the Colorado Rockies, in its partnership with ESPN, will have two-time Major League All-Star Vinny Castilla and former Major League Outfielder Candy Maldonado available to fans to sign autographs during tomorrow's 1:35 PM game (Saturday April 18th) against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Blue Jays affiliate) at New Britain Stadium. Castilla and Maldonado will throw out the ceremonial first pitches then sign autographs (for 30 minutes) on the main concourse once the game begins. There will be no charge for the autographs for Rock Cats fans. Tickets are available for the game by visiting www.rockcats.com or calling 860-224-8383.

Castilla, a former Third Baseman and Shortstop, played 16 years in the Major Leagues from 1991-2006 and logged time with the Atlanta Braves, Colorado Rockies, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Houston Astros, Washington Nationals and San Diego Padres. He had three different stints with the Rock Cats parent club, the Rockies and in 2004 led the National League with 131 RBI. He was a member of the inaugural expansion Rockies team that began in 1993 and hit 40 home runs in both 1996 and 1997 while going on to blast 46 homers in 1998. He compiled five 100+ RBI seasons in his career. Castilla helped to lead the Rockies to their first-ever playoff appearance in 1995 and remains in the top ten in many offensive categories for the club. The Oaxaca, Mexico native was named to two All-Star teams with Colorado in 1995 and 1998. His 162 games played during the 1998 season led the NL. Castilla batted .276 with 320 home runs and 1105 RBI in 16 seasons in the Major Leagues. He was the manager of Mexico in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

Maldonado, a former Outfielder played with seven Major League clubs in his 15 year career from 1981-1995. He played with the Los Angeles Dodgers, San Francisco Giants, Cleveland Indians, Milwaukee Brewers, Toronto Blue Jays, Chicago Cubs and Texas Rangers, batting .254 with 146 home runs and 618 RBI in 1410 Major League games. He led the American League in assists as a left-fielder with the Blue Jays in 1992. He was named National League Player of the week, twice in April of 1984 and May of 1987. The Arecibo, PR native was a big part of the SF Giants success in the late 1980s as a part of the 1987 NL West Champions and the 1989 National League Champions.
