SeaWolves Homers Sink Baysox

Bowie, Md. - The SeaWolves used three home runs in the first three innings of the game to jump out to a 6-0 lead the Baysox were never able to overcome in an 11-3 loss to Erie Friday night. The Baysox are still searching for their first home victory of the 2015 season after consecutive losses have dropped them to 4-5 overall.

Erie struck quickly in the top of the first inning as Baysox starter Branden Kline struggled to get settled. With one out Brendan Harris was hit by a pitch and Corey Jones then drew a walk. Dean Green singled to right field to bring Harris home and give the SeaWolves a 1-0 lead.

The SeaWolves added to the lead in the top of the second inning. Casper Wells drew a lead off walk and Josh Prince followed with a one-out home run to left field. Wynton Bernard then hit a ground-rule double to right field, stole third base and scored on a Harris single to center field to give Erie the 4-0 lead.

Casper Wells and Miguel Gonzalez kept the scoring going with back-to-back home runs in the top of the third to make the score 6-0.

Orioles infielder Jimmy Paredes, who was with the Baysox on a Major League Rehab Assignment, helped get the Baysox offense started in the fifth inning. Erie starter Austin Kubitza issued a pair of walks to start the inning and both runners moved over on a Mike Yastrzemski ground out. Paredes then brought the first run home with an RBI single to right field and Derrik Gibson followed with an RBI ground out to cut the Erie lead to 6-2.

Erie added to the lead in the top of the seventh inning against Baysox reliever Terry Doyle. Doyle surrendered a pair of singles and a double that allowed the first run to score before being replaced on the mound by Bobby Bundy. Bundy allowed a single to James Robbins that brought two more runs home and extended the SeaWolves lead to 9-2.

In the top of the ninth the SeaWolves extended their lead again with a lead-off single from Dean Green to right-center field and Jeff McVaney followed with another single. James Robbins then grounded into a fielder's choice, moving Green to third and forcing McVaney out at second. Bundy threw a wild pitch with Casper Wells batting, advancing Robbins to second. Wells doubled to left scoring both runners and giving Erie an 11-2 lead.

The Baysox scored another ninth inning run just as they did in their first game of the series the night before. Quincy Latimore opened the bottom of the inning with an infield single and Mike McDade followed with a double to right-center field moving Latimore to third. Rossmel Perez hit a sacrifice fly to center field scoring the Baysox third run and final run of the game.

Kline took the loss for Bowie, throwing three innings and allowing six runs on six hits while walking three and striking out one. Doyle threw 3.1 innings and allowed three runs and Bundy pitched the final 2.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits.

Kubitza picked up the win for Erie, going five innings and allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out two batters.

RHP Dylan Bundy (0-0, 0.00) is scheduled to start for the Baysox Saturday as the Baysox play the third game in a four game series against the Erie SeaWolves. He will be opposed by LHP Josh Turley (1-0, 1.50).
