Harrisburg Senators News Release
Harrisburg, PA - The Harrisburg Senators hung on for a 5-4 win over the Altoona Curve Saturday night at Commerce Bank Park. The second game of the scheduled doubleheader was postponed due to rain.
The second game will be made up at a date to be determined.
The Curve took a 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd as Altoona starter Josh Hill retired ten straight Senators. That string was broken in the bottom of the 4th when Roger Bernadina ripped a one-out double off the left-field fence. Two batters later, Luis Jimenez hit a two-run homer to right-center to put Harrisburg up, 2-1. Luke Montz followed with a solo home run to make it 3-1. It was the first time the Senators have hit back-to-back round-trippers this year.
In the 5th, the Senators kept the pedal to the metal. Bernadina hit a two-out triple to center to plate Mike Daniel and Justin Maxwell followed with a single to right to extend the lead to 5-1.
A solo home run by Brad Corley in the 6th inning cut the advantage to 5-2.
Altoona closed the gap further in the top of the 7th. LHP Cory VanAllen gave up a double followed by a single to start the inning. He induced a ground ball, but an errant throw allowed a run to score without an out. With the score 5-3 and the go-ahead run coming to the plate, VanAllen exited. RHP Zech Zinicola came on and allowed an inherited runner to score, but got the final three outs the tying run on base to end the game with a 5-4 win.
VanAllen stayed perfect with a win to go to 3-0. Hill shouldered the loss to fall to 3-4.
The Senators improved to 26-14 as the Curve fell to 15-24.
The homestand concludes with a single game Sunday at 1:05 PM. RHP Tristan Crawford draws the start for Harrisburg against Altoona LHP Kyle Bloom.
