Bowling Green Hot Rods News Release
Fort Wayne, IN - Alejandro Segovia hit his team-leading 14th home run of the season, but the Bowling Green Hot Rods (27-17, 65-49) fell to the Fort Wayne TinCaps (26-18, 57-57) 7-3 in the four-game series finale on Tuesday night at Parkview Field. Ryan Brett also contributed with an RBI-double, but the TinCap offense was too much for Bowling Green whose two errors led to four unearned runs scoring for Fort Wayne.
After timely hitting and TinCap errors aided the Hot Rods to a win on Monday night, the results were the exact opposite for the Hot Rods on Tuesday evening. Against the tough Hot Rods pitching duo of Roberto Gomez and Felipe Rivero, the Fort Wayne bats scored at will early on Tuesday.
Yeison Asencio drove in the first run of the game on a single to left field off Gomez in the bottom of the first. After a 1-2-3 inning in the bottom of the second, an error on a likely double play ball contributed to the TinCaps scoring two more times. In Rivero's first inning of the piggyback outing, another misplay allowed three unearned runs to come in. At the end of four innings, the TinCaps had built up a 6-0 advantage.
The TinCaps added a late run on a solo home run by Mike Gallic, extending Fort Wayne's lead to 7-0 over the Hot Rods. Bowling Green's offense finally woke up in the top of the eighth. After Jake Hager's second single of the game, Ryan Brett drove him in with a line drive RBI-double down the line in left field.
Later in the inning with two outs, Alejandro Segovia was given a hanging breaking ball that he deposited into the construction zone beyond the left field concourse at Parkview Field for a two-run homer. The longball was Segovia's 14th in just 189 at bats this season. The quick outburst was all the offense for the Hot Rods on Tuesday night, though.
The Hot Rods return home on Wednesday to begin a three-game series and homestand with the South Bend Silver Hawks (Future D-Backs) at 6:35 PM CDT. Bowling Green will give the pearl to LHP Ryan Carpenter (10-5, 3.74), while South Bend will counter with RHP Archie Bradley (9-5, 3.90). Tune in to the game on the flagship station for the Hot Rods Radio Network, WBGN-AM 1340 "The Ticket," and online at 1340wbgn.com. The Forever Communications Pregame Show with Hank Fuerst begins at 6:15 PM CDT.
The upcoming homestand features another Thrifty Thursday and the final Christian Family Radio Faith and Family Night. To see the Hot Rods in action at Bowling Green Ballpark, visit BGHotROds.com or call (270)-901-2121 for ticket information.
