Frederick Keys News Release

FREDERICK, MD - On Wednesday, Cody Sedlock was promoted to the Double-A Bowie Baysox, while Keys infielder, Ryan Ripken, was added to the Bowie roster on Tuesday night. It marks the first promotion for each player to the Eastern League.

Making his Double-A debut in relief on Wednesday afternoon, Sedlock, 24, tossed three scoreless innings of relief for the Baysox against the Harrisburg Senators. He allowed one hit, walked three and struck out four.

A Midseason Carolina League All-Star, Sedlock went 4-1 with a 2.36 ERA in 13 games (10 starts) for Frederick this season. Over 61 innings, he allowed only just 16 runs on 38 hits to go with 26 walks and 66 strikeouts. Closing out his Keys tenure strong, Sedlock pitched four scoreless innings of four-hit relief against Carolina last Friday.

Selected by Baltimore in the first round of the 2016 draft out of the University of Illinois, Sedlock was the Big Ten Pitcher of the year as a junior as well as a First Team All-American.

Ripken, 25, also made his Baysox debut on Wednesday and went 1-for-3 with a walk and two strikeouts while batting ninth and serving as DH. In 48 games for the Keys, he slashed .273/.310/.426 with a .736 OPS to go with five home runs, 24 RBIs, one triple, 10 doubles and 18 runs scored. Excellent in June, Ripken batted .292/.325/.458 with three home runs and nine RBIs in 20 games.

The son of Orioles great Cal Ripken Jr., Ryan was signed by the Orioles to a free agent contract in March 2017. He started his professional career with the Washington Nationals organization.

The Keys begin a six-game roadtrip on Wednesday night in Woodbridge, VA against the Potomac Nationals. Right-hander David Lebron (2-4, 3.64) starts for Frederick against Potomac left-hander Carson Teel (3-2, 3.90). First pitch is at 7:05 p.m. and the broadcast can be heard on frederickkeys.com and the TuneIn app. The Keys return to Nymeo Field on July 23 when the Myrtle Beach Pelicans and Potomac Nationals come to town for a six-game homestand.
