SeaWolves take game one in New Hampshire

The SeaWolves took game one of a three-game set in New Hampshire by a final score of 6-4 on Tuesday Night.

The ‘Wolves struck first in the top of the third inning. Juan Francia and Tony Giarratano both singled with one out in the inning. Chris Maples followed with a double down the right field line scoring Francia and Kurt Airoso followed with a sacrifice fly scoring Giarratano, putting Erie up 2-0.

The Fisher Cats responded and tied the game in the bottom of the inning. Adam Lind extended his hitting streak to 16-straight games with a solo home run leading off the inning. With one out Vito Chiaravalloti also connected on a solo home run, tying the game at 2-2.

Erie jumped back on top in the top of the seventh. Danilo Sanchez, Brent Clevlen and Vince Blue all singled with no outs, loading the bases for the top of the order. Francia hit into a fielder's choice and Sanchez was thrown out at home for the first out. Giarratano followed by connecting on a hot shot off the glove and passed the third baseman Eric Arnold bringing two more runs home, putting the SeaWolves on top 4-2.

For the second time in the game, New Hampshire responded tying the ballgame in the bottom of an inning after the ‘Wolves took a two run lead in the top half. With one out, Manny Mayorson hit a bloop single to right and Adam Lind followed with his second home run of the game. The two-run homer tied the game at 4-4.

The ‘Wolves wasted no time getting ahead in the next half inning. Airoso singled leading off the eighth and Scott Tousa walked putting two on for Jackson Melian. Melian layed down a sacrifice bunt moving the runners into scoring position for Sanchez. Sanchez sent a sacrifice fly to left field, scoring Airiso from third, giving Erie a 5-4 advantage.

Ian Ostlund pitched a perfect bottom of the eighth and the SeaWolves took the one-run lead to the ninth.

In the top of the ninth, Blue lined a single to center field leading off the inning. Francia sacrificed Blue over to third, giving the SeaWolves an insurance run 90-feet from home with just one out. Giarratano followed with his fourth hit of the ballgame, a double, bringing home Blue, putting the SeaWolves up 6-4.

John Ennis picked up his fifth save of the season, preserving the SeaWolves victory by only allowing a walk in the bottom of the ninth.
