Erie SeaWolves News Release
ERIE SEAWOLVES (27-29, 4th PLACE, 7.0 GB)
at
NEW HAMPSHIRE FISHER CATS (24-30, 5th PLACE, 8.0 GB)
OVERVIEW - The SeaWolves begin a six-game road trip starting Tuesday night in Manchester, New Hampshire against the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (Toronto Blue Jays). A three-game weekend series against the Portland Sea Dogs (Boston Red Sox) will follow the three-gamer against the Fisher Cats. This is the first of two trips the 'Wolves will make to New England. The second trip will come August 8-13 when Erie travels to New Britain and Connecticut.
The SeaWolves will play back-to-back series against Northern Division opponents for the first time this season. Erie has been in Southern Division play for over a month. The only other Northern Division opponent the SeaWolves have faced in 2006 has been the Binghamton Mets; that series is tied at 3-3.
The SeaWolves have dropped two games under .500 after falling the final two games of the weekend series against the Akron Aeros. In the final game of the Akron series, the 'Wolves tied a season high leaving 10 runners on base.
The Fisher Cats rattled off six-straight wins prior to falling on Sunday evening to the Altoona Curve. New Hampshire ranks in the middle of the pack in the Eastern League in both hitting and pitching. The 'Cats are seventh in the league in batting with a .241 team average and are fifth in the league in pitching with a 3.42 team ERA.
New Hampshire's Adam Lind currently has a 15-game hitting streak, which is the longest in the league this season. The SeaWolves Brent Clevlen had the longest streak of the season at 14 games April 14 through April 29.
Erie is 7-0 following an off day. That includes official off-days and rainouts.
SEASON SERIES - First series of the season. These two squads will play six games this season, three in New Hampshire and three at Jerry Uht Park (August 4-6).
