Harrisburg Senators game notes

June 6, 2006 - Eastern League (EL1)
Harrisburg Senators News Release

Today's Game... The Senators start a homestand tonight against the Connecticut Defenders. Tonight is game one of a three-game series with the AA affiliate of the San Francisco Giants. The Senators come into action this evening having won their last two games, and having won their first road series of the year over the weekend against Binghamton. The Senators are 19-9 at home, but just 7 - 7 in their last two homestand's.

Last Time Out... The Senators beat Binghamton on Sunday afternoon 6-2 to win a series on the road for the first time this year. Kory Casto provided all the offense the Senators would need with a two-run double in the third and a three-run double in the fourth. It was the first time this year a Senator had driven in five runs in a game. Justin Echols started for the Senators and picked up his fourth win of the year while Dan Foli pitched the final four innings for his first save as a Senator. Tim Raines Jr. scored three times in the game, and Kory Casto added a single to go with his two doubles for a three-hit game.

Connecticut... The Defenders led the Northern Division for much of the early season despite not having much of an offensive punch. Connecticut was 13-8 in April with a 2.64 ERA. Even though they were just 14-15 in June, the pitching was still solid with a 3.33 ERA. They come into the series with the Sens having lost their past six games and over the course of those six losses, they've scored just four runs and have been shut out four times.

Heading to DC... When Alex Escobar was called up to the Nationals he became the third Senators player in the past two seasons to go directly from Harrisburg to Washington. Last year Ryan Zimmerman and Darrell Rasner went directly to the Nationals. Shawn Hill pitched one game for New Orleans but then was called up to the Nationals to make a start against the Dodgers on May 27 and will make another start tonight at Atlanta.

Heading Home... The Senators begin a six-game homestand tonight. They'll play three games against Connecticut and then three against the New Britain Rock Cats over the weekend. The Sens are 9-1 at home against Northern Division opponents and look to continue that streak this week.

Players, Players, and more Players... Through barely two months of the season the Senators have already used 40 players. Last year, the Sens had 53 different players on the roster, including a handful of moves prior to the season's last series. There have been 22 separate moves including Robert Fick being placed with the Sens on a major league rehab assignment.
