Binghamton Rumble Ponies News Release

Reading Phillies second baseman Tim Moss scored three times and had four hits, including what proved to be the game-winning home run, helping Reading to a 4-3 win over the Binghamton Mets in the series opener at FirstEnergy Stadium Tuesday. The loss is Binghamton's third straight.

Ray Navarrete got Binghamton (23-35) on the board with a solo homer off Scott Mathieson in the third, but Reading tied the game in the third when Moss got the first of his four hits, moved to second on a sacrifice, to third on another sac bunt and scored when Miguel Perez walked Matt Padgett with the bases loaded.

After Reading (24-32) went ahead 3-1 on a two-run homer off the bat of the pitcher Mathieson (6-2) in the fourth, Binghamton scored in back-to-back innings to re-tie the contest. In the fifth, Mike DiFelice led off with a double, moved to third on a Miguel Perez sacrifice and scored on Bobby Malek's groundout. Andy Wilson tied the game at three with a two-out solo shot in the sixth.

In the bottom of the eighth, after relievers Eddie Camacho and Orlando Roman combined to strike out the first two Reading hitters of the inning, Moss reached Roman (2-2) for a longball to left, giving Reading a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Reading's Chris Key retired Binghamton in order in the top of the ninth, recording his second save of the year.

Wednesday, the B-Mets play the second game of their three-game series at Reading. Lefthander William Collazo (4-4, 2.44) gets the ball for Binghamton against fellow southpaw Daniel Haigwood (1-4, 3.86) of Reading. Game time is 6:35 from FirstEnergy Stadium with the Horizons Federal Credit Union Pre-Game Show kicking off the broadcast at 6:20 on Newsradio 1290 WNBF.
