Erie SeaWolves News Release

It was all SeaWolves in the final game of the four-game series as they defeated the Richmond Flying Squirrels by a 10-1 final on Sunday at Jerry Uht Park.

Erie quickly jumped out to big 5-0 lead in the bottom half of the first. Two walks and a hit batter loaded the bases for the SeaWolves. After a strikeout, a walk issued to Tony Thomas plated a runner and a double by James Robbins cleared the bases. Miguel Gonzalez then followed up with a single, which plated Robbins from second and completed the scoring for Erie in the first.

The Squirrels scored their only run of the game in the second. Myles Schroder and Jason Williams both singled to start the inning for the Squirrels. A ground ball moved both Schroder and Williams up a base, and then Engel Beltre smacked a single that plated Schroder to put Richmond on the board.

Erie matched that run in the bottom half of the inning when McVaney doubled to lead off the inning and moved to third on a fielder's choice. McVaney then scored from third when Dominic Ficociello struck out swinging and the ball got away from the catcher Jackson Williams.

The 'Wolves added three runs in the fourth when walks were issued to McVaney and Krizan. Ficociello was then hit by a pitch to load the bases and McVaney scored a batter later on a wild pitch. A Tony Thomas single then brought home both Krizan and Ficociello as Erie pulled ahead 9-1.

The SeaWolves added another run in the seventh inning to extend the lead 10-1. With two outs, Bernard walked and was moved to third on a McVaney single. Krizan then singled home Bernard to cap off the scoring, sending Erie to a 10-1 victory.

Austin Kubitza (6-9) picked up the win on the bump for Erie as he threw five innings allowing one run on eight hits while walking two and fanning one.
