New Hampshire Fisher Cats News Release
PORTLAND, MAINE - The New Hampshire Fisher Cats dropped their fifth straight game Sunday to match a season-long skid, falling 7-2 to the Portland Sea Dogs at Hadlock Field.
New Hampshire (50-48) suffered their second four-game sweep of the 2015 season, squandering a 2-0 start to their road trip to finish 2-5. The Sea Dogs (39-63) picked up their fourth straight win and seventh in eight home games since the Eastern League's All-Star Break.
The Sea Dogs struck first against Fisher Cats starter Casey Lawrence (L, 10-9) in the bottom of the second inning. Henry Ramos doubled with one out, and came home on David Chester's RBI single. In the third, Portland tacked on another, as Manuel Margot singled to lead off, stole second, and scored when Sam Travis cracked an RBI single of his own to make it 2-0.
The Fisher Cats got on the board in the top of the fourth inning against Portland starting pitcher Justin Haley (W, 4-11). With one out, Ryan Schimpf hammered a 92-MPH fastball over the left-center field fence for a solo homer, his 12th of the season and one of three hits he'd collect on the day. New Hampshire evened things up in the top of the fifth, as K.C. Hobson led off with a single, moved to second base on a passed ball by catcher Tim Roberson, and scored on a single by Roemon Fields to tie the game 2-2.
The tie was short-lived, though, as Portland retook the lead in the bottom of the fifth when leadoff man Aneury Tavarez smoked a solo homer to right field to put the Sea Dogs ahead 3-2. The hosts added two more runs in the fifth, with Carlos Asuaje coming home on a single by Roberson and Travis scoring on a sacrifice fly to give Portland the 5-2 lead. The Sea Dogs scored twice in the sixth as well against Fisher Cats reliever Luis Perez, who surrendered an RBI triple to Margot and let Margot come home on a groundout by Carlos Asuaje to give the final 7-2 margin.
Lawrence took the loss, surrendering five runs (four earned) on 10 hits and a walk in five innings to snap a five-game winning streak. He struck out one. Perez gave up two runs on three hits and a pair of walks while whiffing two in two innings. Dustin Antolin pitched a scoreless inning, striking out one and giving up one hit.
The Fisher Cats will try to get back on track Monday evening at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium as they welcome the Harrisburg Senators for a three-game series. Righty Taylor Cole (4-8, 4.43) will start for New Hampshire against Harrisburg right-hander John Simms (0-0, 0.00). First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m., and Tom Gauthier's pregame show begins at 12:45 p.m. on the WGIR Fisher Cats Radio Network and www.NHFishercats.com.
On Monday, the Fisher Cats will welcome their four millionth fan at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium with a bountiful prize pack! Tickets are still available by calling 603-641-2005, or by visiting www.nhfishercats.com.
